Jessy Thomas

(Yoga Teacher, Yoga Therapist and Personal Trainer)

Jessy loved yoga from the instant she tried it with her mom, as a kid. She’s studied and found love for the styles of Iyengar, Vinyasa, Yin and Bikram. Yoga has provided a great amount of spiritual growth and physical strength and empowerment to Jessy. She has been teaching for almost 15 years. Currently she runs a studio from her home in Everett, Ontario.

Jessy’s love of anatomy and movement started with horses at a young age. She pursued schooling in equine massage therapy, and has practiced for 16 years helping horses regain mobility and wellness. Subsequently, she began providing personal training to horse riders to improve their balance and performance. Over the years, Jessy has completed specialized training in fitness for older adults, chair yoga, nutrition and spin.

While recovering from a chronic back injury, Jessy found yoga therapy. Yoga therapy and pure movement have opened the possibility of a world without pain for her – and for so many of her clients. Jessy sees yoga therapy and neuromuscular re-patterning clients privately, to help them live the lives they dream of living. As yoga therapy students learn more about their bodies, strength and flexibility increase, movement becomes more pure, and ease is possible in all movement.

Jessy’s extensive knowledge of anatomy informs her teaching and empowers her students to become self-aware – including postural habits and areas which need awakening.  Her real gift is an ability to read her students’ bodies and pinpoint exactly what the students need to do in order to increase their personal understanding of their body and their practice. Jessy has helped clients’ pre and post knee and hip replacements, living with MS and Parkinson’s disease, and works with beginning to advanced yoga practitioners. Jessy’s classes are grounded in an in-depth knowledge of alignment and physiology, and are great for yogis looking for a challenging practice at all levels. You can expect to feel motivated and learn something new!

On this retreat, expect to sweat in alignment-based vinyasa practice with Jessy, learn some of your own body’s compensation patterns and how to resolve them. You will also experience the gentle and quiet practice of yin.

Christine Lee MA, CCC, SEP, RP (qualifying)

(Psychotherapist, Life & Business Coach, Mentor, former Yoga Teacher)

Christine started practicing yoga and studying psychology in 1999. She taught yoga for a decade before shifting her focus solely to psychotherapy, coaching and mentoring.

As a coach, Christine has spent years exploring the world of personal development and spirituality, and studied the work of Tony Robbins, Eckhart Tollé, Brené Brown, Danielle LaPorte, and others. She has traveled to India, taken four yoga teacher trainings, experienced living in ashrams, and has been a student of Jon Kabat-Zinn’s mindfulness meditation as well as Vipassana meditation. She now supports others to heal unresolved issues and create meaningful lives through vision work, goal setting, and body-based and emotion-based approaches to healing mental health issues, including trauma*.

A natural outgrowth of Christine’s personal journey in yoga and coaching has included a deep exploration into psychology and its natural intersection with yoga and the body. She uses approaches which involve bringing mindful awareness to sensations and emotions, which helps access areas not always affected by talk therapy. Mindfulness, along with body-based and emotion-focused approaches, are a natural way to heal, increase resiliency, and help resolve physical, mental and emotional disturbances from the inside out.

On this retreat, Christine will lead exercises and share techniques and tools to help you gain awareness of your body and mind. She will teach about the biological basis of how patterns of behavior get stuck in the body, and may lead to physiological symptoms, and intrusive mental patterns. These patterns can be shifted and healed. You will have the opportunity to expand your own capacity and inner resourcefulness. You will also explore and work with your own inner experience to gain understanding and awareness, shift old habits, and begin to resolve uncomfortable physical, mental or emotional symptoms in a gentle, exploratory way.

*Please note that the workshops on this retreat are not intended as group therapy—you will never be required to share your personal stories in front of others. It is a workshop-based format for you to seek understanding and engage in personal, inner-exploration. This is not a retreat for those suffering from serious mental health issues, but is instead designed for anyone who has a desire to engage in a conscious exploration of your inner experience. Activities are led in a safe, gentle manner and participation is always optional. In body-based approaches we focus on the sensations beneath the stories in order to support self-regulation and the resolution of symptoms.

Icelandic Horses

The Icelandic horse is a unique breed that can trace its roots back thousands of years to Iceland. They were bred for their reliability, good character and easy gait as a means of transportation for the tough Icelandic climate. They are a small horse (technically pony sized), with a sturdy build, elegant face and thick manes and tails. Their smaller size and good nature make them a great horse to have a first experience with. Their unique gait and character keep experienced horse people engaged and interested
